James Grime

On Monday 6th October at Kuopion Lyseon Lukio, Puijonkatu 18, 70110 Kuopio, James Grime, wizard mathematician will give a talk on Alan Turing.

Alan TuringAlan Turing, was a British mathematician, logician, cryptanalyst, philosopher, computer scientist, mathematical biologist, and marathon and ultra distance runner.  He was highly influential in the development of computer science, providing a formalisation of the concepts of "algorithm" and "computation" with the Turing machine, which can be considered a model of a general purpose computer. Turing is widely considered to be the father of theoretical computer science and artificial intelligence.

Nick Hennessey is back!  At 6.00pm on 3rd February at Kuopion Lyseo, Puijonkatu 18. Nick Hennessey, the award winning English storyteller and musician will give us his latest performance.

'The Kingdom of Four Jewels'
stories from Wales, Scotland, England and Ireland

St. Valentine's Day Party

Friendship societies in Kuopio will again join their forces to give a St. Valentine's Day Party at Savonia on Saturday 15 February 2014. The programme this year will be accordion music, the Kalinka Choir and Hungarian Quartet will sing  and the didgeridoo will be played. There will be an opportunity  for everyone to dance for the last hour.
 

To reserve, call Pirkko on 044-5038924 or send an email to pirkkohill@hotmail.com by 5 February 2014. Tell her also of any special diets. The dinner, 30 € including the welcoming drink,  should also be paid by the same date to the society's account Nordea FI36 2027 1800 0710 48.

Evensong

We have been invited to attend Choral Evensong on Friday 31st January at 7pm at Kuopio Cathedral.

Panu Pohjolainen will preside and the choir will be formed of students from the Sibelius Academy’s church music department in Kuopio, led by Richard Nicholls, Cantor of the Parish of Kallavesi, and the Cantor for the Diocese of Kuopio. You are most welcome to attend this timeless act of Worship.

Orange Marmalade Bee

Orange marmalade bee will take place at the Hills' in Paasisalo, Paasinotkontie 47, on Saturday 25th January starting at 10 am. The marmalade will be sold at the International Spring Fair on Saturday 24th May. The society will see to the oranges but your own aprons, sharp knifes and orange presses would be of great help.
